One of the most powerful tools for recovery\u2014<strong>education<\/strong>\u2014remains out of reach for many<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, alongside the release of the April 2025 Task Team Report <em><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\">\u201cAccess to Education as a Form of Reparation for Survivors of ISIS Captivity in Iraq\u201d<\/mark><\/strong><\/em>, Farida Global Organization reaffirms that education is not only a fundamental human right but, under the <strong>Yazidi Survivors Law (YSL)<\/strong>, a recognized <strong>form of reparation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Education, when delivered in a <strong>trauma-informed, survivor-centred<\/strong> way, is more than classrooms and textbooks. It is the restoration of dignity, the rebuilding of self-worth, the pathway to economic independence, and a safeguard against the recurrence of violence. It is an investment in the <strong>resilience of individuals<\/strong> and the <strong>healing of communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, barriers\u2014<strong>age restrictions, loss of documentation, financial hardship, and lack of tailored support<\/strong>\u2014continue to block survivors from returning to school or starting anew. This is not acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;Restoring education to survivors is not charity\u2014it is justice. It is a promise we must keep, a wound we must help heal. Without education, reparation remains incomplete.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u2014 <em>Khalid Qasim, Country Director \u2013 Iraq, Farida Global Organization<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Survivors themselves have spoken. They want classrooms where they feel understood, flexible learning adapted to their realities, vocational opportunities that match market needs, and scholarships to pursue higher education\u2014both in Iraq and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One survivor\u2019s words in the report echo with urgency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;They took our freedom, our families, and our childhood. We cannot get those years back, but we can still build a future\u2014if we are given the chance to learn again.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Task Team Report offers <strong>clear recommendations<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lift administrative and legal barriers to survivor enrolment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop survivor-tailored education programmes with mental health and psychosocial support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expand scholarships and vocational training, nationally and internationally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure survivors are at the heart of programme design and implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Farida Global\u2019s Call to Donors &amp; the International Community:<\/strong><br>This is the moment to act.
