On the sad and sorrowful 7th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide in Sinjar, northern Iraq, many Yazidis continue to suffer intensely due to missing family members and friends, because of protracted displacement, and because of the Genocide still goes on.
Farida e.V. (Farida Global Organization) initiated the photo exhibition “The women who beat ISIS” in cooperation with the Eesidische Sonne Stuttgart e.V. that took place from July 31st till today in the sculpture courtyard of the Württembergischer Kunstverein and co-financed by the intercultural project funding of the city of Stuttgart.
The aim of the exhibition is to visualize the unimaginable suffering of the Yazidi community for its fellow citizens and to demand justice for the victims. Since even today, seven years after the first ISIS attack, more than 2,500 Yazidi women and children are missing and thousands are living in unsafe refugee camps. We also want to draw attention to the importance of another special quota programme to bring more Yazidi women and children to Germany.
The exhibition consists of more than 40 pictures showing portraits of Yazidi survivors and the Sinjar region before and after the ISIS attack. The exhibition documents the genocide that occurred in Iraq in 2014 and its consequences that continue to this day. In addition, the history of the Yazidis, the genocide and the genocide’s survivors can be read on information boards.
