Farida Global recently facilitated a meeting between a delegation from the UK Embassy and survivors of #CRSV (Conflict-Related Sexual Violence). The purpose of the meeting was to gain deeper insight into the current situation of the survivors and their experiences with the implementation of the Yazidi Female Survivors Law (YSL). The UK Embassy delegation actively engaged with the survivors, attentively listening to their stories and participating in an open discussion.
In line with Farida Global’s survivor-centered approach, the organization provided a safe space for survivors to share their experiences, stories, and needs, extending beyond the scope of the YSL. The discussions encompassed the survivors’ present living conditions, their expectations, and their future plans. One female survivor expressed gratitude for the compensation salaries received under the YSL and appealed for ongoing support from the UK Embassy, the government, and organizations like Farida Global until all their rights under the YSL are fully realized.
At Farida Global, we place great importance on considering age and gender inclusivity. Consequently, male survivors were also included in the meeting with the UK Embassy delegation. One male survivor shared his personal journey, expressing his longing to return to his hometown and reunite with his family upon his liberation.
He said
“ I was expecting to return home and to live with my family after my liberation from IS-IS captivity. I’ve spent my formative 4.5 years of childhood in captivity while the other 4.5 subsequent years in a tented camp without access to education, which is a fundamental right for every child.”
We express our sincere gratitude to the survivors for their unwavering courage in advocating for their rights and bravely sharing their experiences. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to the International Organization for Migration (IOM)-Iraq, a key stakeholder supporting survivors and playing a crucial role in the implementation of the YSL. Finally, we are honored to have welcomed the delegation from the UK Embassy and are grateful for their dedicated time in attentively listening to the needs and experiences of the survivors.
