At Farida Global, we believe that healing goes beyond recovery—it is about reclaiming dignity, restoring hope, and rebuilding futures. Through our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Program for beneficiaries of the Yazidi [Female] Survivors’ Law (YSL), we have had the privilege of standing alongside countless survivors, witnessing their resilience, transformation, and courage.
This program was not just about offering therapy; it was about creating safe spaces where survivors could speak, be heard, and be supported in a way that truly centers their needs. Through comprehensive mental health care, vocational training, and survivor-led engagement, we have worked to ensure that every survivor we reach is met with care, dignity, and opportunity.
A Survivor-Centered Approach: Healing Through Trust & Community
From the outset, our approach has been simple yet profound: listen to survivors, understand their needs, and provide tailored support that uplifts and empowers them. Many had encountered services before that focused only on their past trauma, but few had experienced holistic care designed to help them move forward.
At Farida Global, we changed that.
Through a range of specialized mental health interventions, we provided psychological support, trauma-informed therapy, psychiatric care, and family-based healing programs. Survivors engaged in community-focused activities, where they found strength in shared experiences and built meaningful connections. We ensured that survivors were not alone in their journey—we stood with them, walked beside them, and celebrated their milestones.
Stories of Strength: Real Lives, Real Impact
Behind every survivor’s story is a journey of struggle, endurance, and triumph.
Ms. K’s Journey: From Darkness to Dreams
“I never thought I could escape my past. I felt trapped, lost—like my life had stopped even after I was freed.”
Ms. K, taken from her family as a child, spent years struggling with deep trauma, depression, and hopelessness. For a long time, she believed that nothing could change. Then she found Farida Global.

Through therapy, medical support, and a structured reintegration process, she started to see a different future for herself. Slowly, she rebuilt her confidence, strengthened her mental well-being, and found the courage to dream again.
Today, she has returned to school, determined to reclaim what was taken from her.
“For the first time in years, I feel like I have a future. I am not just a survivor—I am rebuilding my life.”
Today, he is no longer weighed down by the past—he is moving forward with strength and hope.
Beyond Mental Health: Empowering Survivors for Life
At Farida Global, healing is not just about therapy it is about building a future. Survivors were given vocational training, skill-building opportunities, and educational support to help them regain financial independence and confidence.
Many survivors engaged in sewing, digital literacy, and language training programs, allowing them to learn new skills, re-enter the workforce, or start their own small businesses. These programs foster self-reliance, break cycles of dependency, and create lasting change.
” When I come to these training sessions, I learn things that I can practice at home. It helps me feel productive again.” – Survivor in Vocational Program
Healing Together: The Power of Community
For many survivors, isolation can be as painful as the trauma itself. Through group-based psychosocial support, family visits, and community outings, we created spaces where survivors could connect, share, and rediscover joy.
Recreational activities provided much-needed relief, allowing survivors to experience moments of peace and connection.
Family-centered programs helped strengthen relationships, ensuring that survivors had a strong support system around them.
Outreach and awareness initiatives helped break the stigma surrounding mental health, encouraging more survivors to seek help without fear or shame.
When I’m home, my psychological situation is harder, but when I go out, it gets better. On outings, I meet friends, and I feel more comfortable.†– Female Participant in PSS Outings

The Challenge: Securing Sustainable Funding for Essential Services
While the success of this program is undeniable, continuing these critical services remains an ongoing challenge.
Providing long-term, survivor-centered mental health and psychosocial support requires sustained funding and investment. The reality is that many of the most effective programs struggle to secure the resources they need to continue. Without consistent support, survivors risk losing access to the very services that have helped them rebuild their lives.
This work cannot stop here. We need governments, donors, and humanitarian partners to prioritize mental health and survivor rehabilitation as a fundamental part of post-conflict recovery. Every survivor deserves more than a moment of relief they deserve a lifetime of stability, empowerment, and healing.
Acknowledging Our Partners: A Special Thank You to IOM-Iraq
This transformative work was made possible through the generous support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM-Iraq). Their commitment to strengthening survivor-centered mental health and psychosocial support services has been instrumental in bringing healing and hope to Yazidi survivors.
We extend our deepest gratitude to IOM-Iraq for believing in this mission, for investing in the well-being of survivors, and for making this program a reality.
