Kocho Mass Grave-sinjar

11 Years On – We Are Still Waiting

A message from a survivor. A call from our people.

On August 3, 2014, everything changed.

I was taken. My sisters were taken.

Children disappeared. Fathers were killed. Mothers buried their grief in silence.

What happened to the Yazidis was not just genocide—it was a shattering of time, family, and trust. And 11 years later, we are still gathering the pieces.

  • Today, we remember the 1,300+ Yazidis killed in the first days.
  • We remember the 6,000+ abducted—most of them women and children.
  • We mourn the 2,500+ who are still missing.
  • We bury our dead one mass grave at a time—only 68 out of 93 opened.
  • We honor 3,598 survivors who broke the chains and made it home.
  • And we carry the pain of over 150,000 still displaced, stuck in tents 11 summers later.

This is not just a memory. This is our reality.

Survivors are not statistics. We are human beings.

We are mothers trying to raise children in tents.

We are daughters who returned after years in captivity, now teaching others to know their rights.

We are sons still searching for our sisters.

We are survivors building what Da’esh tried to erase.

And yet—we are still waiting.

For justice.

For safety.

For the truth about the missing.

For a return to Sinjar that is real, safe, and dignified.

What we demand is not charity—it is dignity.

The Yazidi Survivors Law gave us hope. But it is not enough to pass a law—we need to feel it in our lives.

Thousands are still left out because they don’t have papers or were not believed.

Even those approved are struggling with underfunded healthcare, no jobs, and no home to return to.

We ask: Is survival enough? Or do we have the right to rebuild our lives in peace?

We are tired of symbolic anniversaries.

We need action.

We call on the Iraqi government, on the KRG, on the international community:

Don’t let the 11th year pass in silence.

Rebuild Sinjar.

Open the remaining mass graves—with dignity, oversight, and DNA testing.

Bring back the missing.

Implement the Yazidi Survivors Law in full.

Protect us from hate speech and violence.

From survivors, for survivors.

At Farida Global, we are not just telling stories—we are shaping the future.

We are training survivors to lead.

We are helping others access justice.

We are standing in courtrooms, classrooms, and camps—because our voices matter.

To the world: Don’t turn the page on us.

We survived Da’esh.

Now let us survive the aftermath.
