Guidance on Supporting Survivor Applications under the Yazidi Survivors Law
To support survivors of CRSV and ISIS crimes from the Yezidi, Christian, Turkmen, and Shabak communities, our team at Farida Global Organization (Farida e.V.) together with a group of survivors from Iraq, Germany, Canada, and Australia, has developed a comprehensive survivor-centric guide on how to best support survivor applications under the Iraqi Yazidi Survivors Law (YSL). This guidance is intended as a resource for policymakers, case workers, and other stakeholders who seek to facilitate survivor access to reparations under the YSL
We are pleased to announce that the guidance is now published on our website in German, Arabic and English. The guidance can be downloaded in all three different languages via the links provided below:
- English version can be downloaded here.
- German version can be downloaded here.
- Arabic version can be downloaded here.
Updates:
What does justice look like for a survivor of ISIS captivity?
It starts here—with knowledge, dignity, and support. We at Farida Global, alongside our partners Taboo LLC and the Free Yezidi Foundation are excited to launch the updated version of the guide for NGOs supporting survivors through the Yazidi Survivors’ Law (YSL)—a landmark legal pathway for reparations in Iraq. This isn’t just a manual. It’s a survivor-informed roadmap built from the ground up with field experience, legal expertise, and the voices of those who have endured the unthinkable. Survivors have successfully accessed monthly financial support, land, education opportunities, and psychosocial care under the YSL. But many more—in Iraq and in the diaspora—are still waiting, still eligible, still in need of support to navigate this complex process.
This guide is here to help NGOs step in—ethically, compassionately, and effectively. Inside you’ll find:
• Step-by-step guidance on completing YSL applications
• Survivor-centered, trauma-informed interview techniques
• Legal and evidentiary checklists
• Strategies for appeals, and working with diaspora survivors
• Tips for building trust, ensuring safety, and protecting survivor dignity Whether you’re a legal advisor, caseworker, counselor, or field officer—this guide was made with you in mind. Because every survivor matters, and every application is a step toward healing, recognition, and justice.
Have you supported someone through the YSL process?
Are you working with survivors who still need help applying?
We’d love to hear from you. Drop a comment, share this post, or message us directly.
Let’s stand together—with survivors, for justice.
